The Ripple Effect: Liza
Meet Liza White!
Liza has been an active member of Union Capital since 2014 and is currently working on her Summer of S.O.L. workshop that she will lead in August.
Liza first became involved in Union Capital after UC visited her child’s school. Following this and a chat with Eric about social capital and the importance of community, she began attending UC events and bringing her children along with her. She has participated in Network Nights, Leadership Programs, UC Financial Workshops, homebuyer courses, etc., and will now be leading her own workshop come August. Liza says that she gained invaluable experience through the homebuyer courses and financial workshops. They connected her to financial resources and taught her how to use credit cards and better manage money, which led to her becoming a first-time homeowner. Along with the financial workshops, Liza participated in Leadership Programs, which have offered her support and encouragement with public speaking, which has been an increasingly useful tool for Liza as she has been intentionally working to advocate in her community and speak up more. One of the most important impacts of her time with Union Capital has been the connection it has given her and her children to their community. By bringing her kids to Union Capital events, Liza says that it has given them a sense of community and taught them how to advocate for themselves.
Liza consistently works to grow her network and connect others with Union Capital. Now living in Brockton, she is trying to bring the sense of community that Union Capital has to her community and to connect people in Brockton with UC. She tells community members about UC, connects them with the app, and encourages them to participate in Union Capital events.
With support and encouragement from Dennis Hicks, Liza will be a workshop leader for Summer of S.O.L. this August, where she will lead a calming and restorative workshop. This workshop will be a place for members of the community to reset, reconnect, and rise as leaders in their own lives and communities. It will be an experience that offers a supportive space for personal growth, connection, and renewal.
Liza also works to teach the broader community about meditation, calmness, and leadership through her job. As a meditation guide, she is devoted to helping people reconnect with themselves to find their calm, clarity, and inner peace. She provides people with tools to help them manage the everyday difficulties of life and reconnect. Her work gives people the tools to be more grounded and calm in their leadership, encouraging them to be leaders in their community while also being mindful and connected within themselves.
Along with her work in meditation and grounded leadership, Liza acts as a strong voice in her community and a child and family advocate through the Collaborative Parent Leadership Action Network (CPLAN). Liza was introduced to CPLAN through Union Capital and eventually became a member. As a member of CPLAN, she works to help empower parents to become leaders in their children’s education. CPLAN's goal is to create a clear path for parents to support their children’s academic success by offering resources, training, and guidance. It works to empower parents to become advocates within decision-making councils to create a more just and inclusive education system. During her time there, she was able to further this mission and grow her network by meeting other mothers who care deeply about their children’s education and CPLAN’s mission. Not only did CPLAN and Liza’s membership have an impact on her and her children, but it also had an impact on other parents and children in the community. CPLAN was able to bring children with them to the state house to advocate for a more inclusive education system. This experience expanded the children's and parents’ understanding of government and its role in education while also providing an opportunity for children to advocate for themselves and use their voices. Her work in CPLAN has a powerful impact on children, mothers, schools, and the community as a whole.
Through her work, Liza has helped others reconnect with themselves, find their calmness, and advocate for their children. She herself helps fight for a more inclusive and just education system while empowering mothers to become more involved in their children’s education. While doing so, she also teaches others how to find their calmness and encourages them to be leaders in their community. Join Liza in her Summer of S.O.L. Workshop on August 1st from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., where she continues to make important waves in her community!
“Community leadership means showing up as your true, authentic self. Your community needs you and needs you to show up as you. There is so much power in your story”
