Meet Missy Brown!
Missy Brown was introduced to Union Capital by her financial advisor, Lashaunda Watson, who encouraged her to attend a Network Night.
What began as an opportunity to connect with others quickly grew into a meaningful leadership journey. As the owner of her own consulting business, Missy initially became involved by facilitating workshops and participating in leadership programs such as UC Learns and UC Facilitates. Through Union Capital, she was also introduced to Genuinity, an initiative focused on advancing housing equity and healthcare equity. That connection created another opportunity for Missy to contribute her expertise, as she facilitated a workshop for Genuinity through her consulting business. Since then, she has become both a dedicated participant and a leader within Union Capital, facilitating workshops, supporting Summer of S.O.L., training new facilitators, and serving as a Network Coordinator.
Throughout her time with Union Capital, Missy has embraced opportunities to strengthen both her leadership and facilitation skills. She participated in UC Learns twice, explaining that the experience became even more meaningful the second time because her personal story had continued to evolve. Through the program, she learned the power of public narrative, discovering how sharing authentic experiences can inspire others and create stronger communities. The coaching, storytelling, and supportive feedback she received helped build her confidence as a facilitator while reinforcing the importance of leading with purpose and vulnerability.
Today, Missy continues to pour those lessons back into Union Capital. As a Network Coordinator, she supports community events, helps train facilitators for programs like Summer of S.O.L., assists with outreach efforts, and serves as a dependable resource wherever support is needed. Encouraged by fellow members to step into the coordinator role, Missy has spent the past year helping create welcoming spaces where members can connect, grow, and discover their own leadership potential. Her willingness to step in wherever she is needed has made her a trusted leader within the Union Capital community.
One of Missy's greatest passions is helping others envision the future they want to build. Through her multi-week vision boarding workshops, she guides participants through a process of self-reflection, goal setting, and creating practical action plans before building their own vision boards. Rather than offering a one-time activity, Missy designs each workshop as a transformative experience that helps participants leave feeling empowered and equipped to pursue their goals. She has tailored these workshops for a variety of audiences, including high school interns, maternal health organizations, and Union Capital members, with many participants continuing to use the tools and strategies long after the workshops conclude.
Mental health advocacy is another central part of Missy's work. Drawing from her own experiences with functional depression and therapy, she openly discusses the importance of seeking support while working to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health, particularly within Black communities. Through workshops, Table Talks, and community conversations, she encourages others to prioritize their well-being, ask for help when needed, and create spaces where honest conversations about mental health can happen. Missy believes that stronger communities begin with healthier individuals and hopes to continue expanding mental health programming, particularly for youth and families.
Beyond facilitating workshops, Missy also helps shape Union Capital's future through her participation on the Root Cause Analysis Committee, where members analyze community feedback and identify emerging needs. Recent conversations have highlighted a growing desire for youth programming and greater mental health awareness, two areas that closely align with Missy's passions. She hopes to help develop future programming, including vision boarding workshops designed specifically for young people as they prepare for the school year.
Missy also serves as an ambassador for Union Capital, introducing friends, colleagues, and community members to the organization whenever she meets people looking to build stronger connections or develop as leaders. She believes that while incentives may encourage people to attend their first event, it is the welcoming, supportive community that inspires them to stay. Through word of mouth and genuine relationships, she continues to connect others with opportunities to grow, lead, and find belonging within Union Capital.
Whether she is facilitating a workshop, mentoring new facilitators, advocating for mental health, or helping members discover their own leadership potential, Missy Brown leads with authenticity, compassion, and purpose. Her dedication to empowering others reflects Union Capital's belief that every member has something valuable to contribute. By helping people believe in themselves, share their stories, and pursue their goals, Missy continues to make a lasting impact throughout the Union Capital community.
